Post 3 – The Fight Song Post
While many people associated with the Saint Louis University basketball team like to think of “When the Saints Go Marching In” as our “fight song,” let me be the first to say you need to be slapped upside the head with a ThunderStix.
This is a generic fight song used by several Catholic universities (Saint Joseph’s, Providence) as well as the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League.
According to several sources within the athletic dept., SLU has had several songs used to rally fans, students and teams alike since the early 1900s. In fact, we have even found lyrics to the “Varsity Song:”
Sons of a royal name, dear Varsity, For aye our faith and love We pledge to thee. Guardian of truth and light Our fathers knew Thou whom the years have crowned St. Louis U.
All hail, St.Louis U., valiant and strong Noble Old Varsity, hark to our song, Proudly our colors fly, Brave white and blue Loud let the chorus swell, St.Louis U.
We are the oldest university west of the Mississippi (1818, for all you history majors out there) — let’s start acting our age and bring back the traditions of yore.

Post 2 – the Duke Post
On Dec. 11, 2010, the Billikens will play defending national champion Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham.
For some odd reason, I see the Billikens hanging in there against the Dookies, but eventually the depth, experience (and hell, they’re Duke) and the home-floor advantage will dance with the Blue Devils.
The fact that Horizon League power Butler took Duke within an inch or two of pulling off one of the greatest upsets in the history of sports (see Appalachian State – Michigan for my all-time favorite) gives Billiken fans reason to believe that maybe we can go into Krzyzewskiville and knock-off Duke, but it will be tough to do so in Durham.
I hope to see as many Billiken fans as possible for our “Durham in December” road trip. Let’s shock the world.
